Little Changes to Less Stress

For all its conveniences the modern world has a lot of difficulties too. In the hustle and bustle we are juggling commitments, never seem to have enough time and getting increasingly stressed out.

Everyone has an “I’m so stressed” day every so often. But when that starts happening more and more often it might be time to make a change.

Feeling stressed can cause you to eat too much or not enough, smoke and drink more, disturb your sleep and lose concentration – all of which can be dangerous to your health. It affects your decision making abilities and makes you anxious and irritable.

What can you do about stress?

A change of scenery can help take your mind off nagging concerns. Taking the dog for a walk, going to see a film or a day trip out are all little things that can make a difference. Find a relaxation technique that works for you – it could be meditation, jogging, a nice bath or reading a book.

Getting a good night’s sleep is important – stress can cause and be caused by a lack of sleep. Stick to a regular bedtime to help your body keep its rhythm and watch your caffeine intake in the hours before. There’s also evidence that certain types of light, such as from mobile phones and laptops, stops you from falling asleep by mimicking daylight and making your brain think it should still be up and running.

Make sure to take a step back from whatever is causing your stress at least for a short while. If you can resolve any nagging worries in your life that will eliminate the stress at the source. In the meantime do what you can to take a break. Turn off your phone for some time to yourself and don’t check your work emails while you unwind.

Stress doesn’t have to be an everyday part of life. With these tips you can beat it back and fully enjoy the fun parts.
