What’s On Your Bucket List?

Let’s have a look at some popular “one day” ambitions and what you can start doing right now to make them real.

The next John Grisham

They say everyone has a novel in them and it’s never been easier to get yours out in the world. There’s a revolution going on in publishing and new authors are getting started in unprecedented numbers. If you can get in to the habit of writing every day even ten or thirty minutes will see you piling up the words. Writing just 500 words a day on your lunch break or first thing in the morning will give you an average length book in less than six months.

Get up to speed

You might have missed your chance at going pro for your favourite sports team but lots of people still dream of conquering a big goal like a marathon or triathlon. Get accountable and tell everyone your plans to compete and pick an event to aim for. Working back from there you can put a plan in place and targets to be hitting along the way. Having a longer term goal makes all the difference to your motivation. Look at getting sponsored to increase your drive or buddy up with a friend.

Run that marathon

The Next Generation

Being a dad and contributing to the ongoing future of humanity, and the family name, is a responsibility but a great ambition too. You might want to wait until you’ve got a promotion or bought a bigger house but you can get started now by looking after your health and protecting your fertility. Sperm counts are dropping all over the world so knowing the risks and guarding against them is something your future self will thank you for when it’s time to tick this one off the bucket list.

Get a round in

Owning your own pub is a hugely popular ambition. It can be a tricky business so make sure to get started on your research early. And not just the sort of research you do sat at a bar either, though some sampling of the wares might come into it. There’s regulation to think about and training to do but there’s plenty of advice online and from trade shows that will help get you on your way.

See the world

Hit the road

Whether there’s a particular city or country you want to visit or you are more of an open-ended round-the-world-ticket kind of guy, getting out there and seeing the world is something most people dream of. Treat yourself to a guidebook to get yourself excited – then do something a little less exciting and crack open a spreadsheet to start budgeting your savings. There are lots of handy ways to keep your costs down, like Skyscanner or AirBnB, so this one might not be as hard as you think.
